Winners of 2019 Youth Photography Festival honoured

The biennial festival is hosted by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for Vietnamese photographers who are aged between 18 and 35 years old, living both in and outside the country.

It aims to encourage the creativity of young Vietnamese photographers nationwide while providing them with an opportunity to show their talent and gain experience from each other.

Launched in March under the theme of ‘Vietnam Today’, this year’s event received nearly 2,070 entries by 298 photographers in two categories, reality and experiment.

The organising board selected 197 outstanding entries to display at the exhibition, with 21 of them being awarded, including two gold, four silver and six bronze medals along with nine consolation prizes.

Accordingly, Phan Thi Khanh from Ho Chi Minh City won the gold medal in the reality category for her photo collection entitled ‘Landmark 81 – Khat Vong Vuon Cao’ (Landmark81 – Aspiration to Rise Higher).

Meanwhile, the gold medal in the experiment category went to the photo collection ‘Khi Giot Nuoc Mat Rung Can Kho’ (When tears of the forest dry out) by Tran Bao Hoa from Binh Dinh Province.

Hard-working female workers having no International Women’s Day

Each day these women start their work from 10 p.m. One of their main responsibilities is to drag along deliveries of fruit, vegetables, and seafood to stalls throughout the market. Hundreds of trucks carrying fruit and vegetables usually park at the entrance of the market each night. It is then up to the labourers to fulfill the task of unloading the items and then distributing them among the various businesses at the market. Female labourers typically come from neighbouring northern provinces such as Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, and Vinh Phuc. Indeed, they are forced to work far away from home in order to make ends meet.
