ASEAN food fest opens in downtown Ho Chi Minh City

The festival, slated to be held from November 24 to 27 on the section of Le Loi Street from Pasteur Street to Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, is the first public event on the street after seven years as the street was earlier blocked for the construction of an underground station of the city’s first metro line.

The street was reopened to traffic at the end of August this year after the last construction barriers were removed.

On behalf of the organizer of the 2022 ASEAN Food Festival, Ho Xuan Lam, vice-president of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, said on Tuesday that during the event, dishes of ASEAN countries are to be introduced to visitors.

At an ideal venue, the festival is expected to welcome a large number of visitors to participate in cultural, artistic, and culinary activities.

Consulates general of ASEAN countries in Ho Chi Minh City have introduced businesses specializing in both restaurant-style and home cooking to take part in the event.

Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City residents and tourists have a chance to enjoy delicious dishes from these countries at reasonable prices.

In addition, the festival features artistic performances and cultural exchange activities, such as an ASEAN art performance night, programs to introduce the tea, wine, and coffee arts of different countries, street art gigs, and bartending performances.

According to Lam, the fest is aimed at strengthening the partnership and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries, especially those in the ASEAN bloc, and welcoming the fourth congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations in the 2022-27 tenure.

The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of ASEAN (1967-2022).
