Vietnam aim at victory against Thailand in ASEAN football final first leg
Vietnam target a win over defending champions Thailand in the first leg of the 2022 AFF Championship final in Hanoi on Friday evening, said their head coach Park Hang Seo at a press conference on Thursday.
The first leg takes place at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi at 7:30 pm and is broadcast live on VTV5, VTV Can Tho, and FPT Play.
Park said at Thursday’s meeting that during five years of coaching Vietnam’s U23 and national teams, he only lost one match against Thailand in the first leg of the 2020 AFF Championship semifinal.
His target is to “claim this debt” from the Thai team, who went on to claim the 2020 trophy after beating Vietnam 2-0 on aggregate in two legs of the semi.
He also wants to win the championship as a gift for supporters of the Vietnamese football team and fans at home.

Midfielder Do Hung Dung affirmed that the whole team are feeling very relaxed ahead of the game.
The final is also an opportunity for Park to meet the goal of leading Vietnam to a victory over Thailand before leaving his role as head coach of the Vietnamese national team on January 31.
Alexandre Polking, head coach of the Thai national team, said Vietnam are a better candidate for the championship but Thailand will also do their best.
The second leg is scheduled to be played at 7:30 pm on January 16 at Thailand’s Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani.
