German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife arrived in Hanoi on January 23 for a two-day state visit at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his wife.
During their visit, foreign guests had the opportunity to explore Vietnamese culture through a visit to the historic Temple of Literature, a site that showcases Vietnam’s traditional fondness for learning.
The high-ranking German delegation received a briefing on the history of the Temple of Literature.
This is Steinmeier’s second visit to Vietnam, following his first visit in October 2016 when he served as the Foreign Minister of Germany.
This is the first foreign visit by the German President in 2022 and marks the first high-level exchange between the two countries this year. It is an important year as both countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2025.
The Vietnamese, who won the gold medal in men’s football at the delayed 2021 SE Asian Games organized in Hanoi in May 2022, were expected to have an easy game, but they faced strong resistance from their Lao opponents and sometimes stayed in a deadlock at Prince Stadium in Phnom Penh. The junior Golden Stars got off to a great start in the second minute when Nguyen Van Tung headed the ball past Lao goalkeeper Solasak Thilavong into the net, following a good cross from Nguyen Thanh Nhan from the right side. With the early lead, coach Philippe Troussier’s team tried to reduce the match’s tempo, but moments of sloppy defending gave Laos some good chances. The remainder of the first half saw interesting back-and-forth attempts between the two teams. Village chief Y Krai Cil is the shaman conducting the ritual: “Today the two men will swear an oath to become blood brothers. They have had a close relationship for a long time. I conduct this ritual to wish them good health and true brotherhood. If one experiences difficulties or hardship, may they stay together and never abandon the other.” The twinning ritual has two main procedures: asking the deities to accept the brotherhood and bless them with good health, and the twinned men enjoying their first meal ...

The benefits of hosting the group’s performance in Vietnam are evident. However, have we fully capitalized on these opportunities to promote our country’s image and generate income? Associate Professor, PhD. Bui Hoai Son, a member of the National Assembly’s Committee on Culture and Education, discussed this phenomenon with The Hanoi Times. The potential of Vietnam’s entertainment market With the recent BlackPink effect, what are your comments on the needs of the Vietnamese audience?
