The festival, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Cuisine Culture Association, showcases a combination of traditional and contemporary art programs, along with various national Tet rituals.
The event features over 150 booths exhibiting a diverse range of Vietnamese products and specialties from different regions.
Many tourists gather to observe artisans wrapping and cooking “banh chung” (a square glutinous rice cake), a traditional dish during the Tet holiday.
A special attraction of the festival is a calligraphy market where calligraphers, dressed in “ao dai” (Vietnamese traditional long dress), sell calligraphy works written in black and yellow ink on red paper.
Visitors also have the opportunity to participate in traditional folk games such as stilt walking, tug of war, blindfolded clay pot breaking, and mandarin square capturing.
A booth showcasing “To He” (toy figurines) attracts the attention of foreign visitors.
The festival will run until January 21 and is expected to attract more than 80,000 domestic and foreign visitors.
The Vietnamese, who won the gold medal in men’s football at the delayed 2021 SE Asian Games organized in Hanoi in May 2022, were expected to have an easy game, but they faced strong resistance from their Lao opponents and sometimes stayed in a deadlock at Prince Stadium in Phnom Penh. The junior Golden Stars got off to a great start in the second minute when Nguyen Van Tung headed the ball past Lao goalkeeper Solasak Thilavong into the net, following a good cross from Nguyen Thanh Nhan from the right side. With the early lead, coach Philippe Troussier’s team tried to reduce the match’s tempo, but moments of sloppy defending gave Laos some good chances. The remainder of the first half saw interesting back-and-forth attempts between the two teams. The stilt house of Y Thien Cil of Jie Yuk hamlet is cheerful with a chưng bor melody and the prayers of a shaman inviting deities to the twinning ceremony of Y Thien Cil and Y Nam Pan Ting. They have been close friends for many years and after the blood oath they will be blood brothers. The offerings are pork, steamed glutinous rice, bananas, eggs, a rooster, two brass bracelets, and two strings of glass beads. The two men and their wives sit in front of the offerings. Village chief Y Krai Cil is the shaman conducting the ritual: “Today the two men will swear an oath to become blood brothers. They have had a close relationship for a long time. I conduct this ritual to wish them good health and true brotherhood. If one experiences difficulties or hardship, may they stay together and never abandon the other.” The twinning ritual has two main procedures: asking the deities to accept the brotherhood and bless them with good health, and the twinned men enjoying their first meal ...
The Hanoi Tourism Department has announced that over 170,000 individuals visited Hanoi during the two-day BlackPink concert, generating a total revenue of VND630 billion (US$27.4 million) for the city. The benefits of hosting the group’s performance in Vietnam are evident. However, have we fully capitalized on these opportunities to promote our country’s image and generate income? Associate Professor, PhD. Bui Hoai Son, a member of the National Assembly’s Committee on Culture and Education, discussed this phenomenon with The Hanoi Times. The potential of Vietnam’s entertainment market With the recent BlackPink effect, what are your comments on the needs of the Vietnamese audience? The BlackPink event in Hanoi displayed the immense appeal of this girl band.
